How to use bath salt without a bathtub
Most Indian homes have a bucket, not a tub. Here are five easy ways to get the spa soak anyway.
Bath salts are usually marketed for long tub soaks, but you don’t need a bathtub to enjoy one. A blend like Golden Blossom, made of Himalayan pink salt, Epsom salt and real petals, dissolves just as well in a basin or a bucket.
1. The foot soak (our favourite)

- Fill a basin with warm water, enough to cover your ankles.
- Add 2–3 tablespoons of bath salt and stir until it dissolves.
- Soak for 10–15 minutes. Read a mantra card or just breathe.
- Rinse, pat dry and moisturise.
2. The bucket bath

Dissolve 2–3 tablespoons in a bucket of warm water and pour it over your shoulders with a mug after you have washed. It’s the closest thing to a full soak, with no tub needed.
3. A gentle shower scrub

Mix a spoonful of bath salt with a little coconut or almond oil. Massage gently over damp arms and legs, then rinse. Avoid your face and any broken skin.
4. The hand soak

After gardening, cooking or a long day of typing, soak your hands in a bowl of warm water with a teaspoon of salt for five minutes.
5. How much salt to use

| Method | Amount | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Foot soak | 2–3 tbsp | 10–15 min |
| Bucket bath | 2–3 tbsp | while bathing |
| Hand soak | 1 tsp | 5 min |
| Full bath | ¼–½ cup | 15–20 min |
A 300 g jar gives about 8–10 foot soaks.
